Latest On Giants Injury Report Tonight vs. San Francisco
The Giants will be short some of their best players tonight as they head into the Bay Area to play the San Francisco 49ers. Their best two players, Left Tackle Andrew Thomas and Running back Saquon Barkley, will be out tonight, as will edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.
For Thomas, this will be the second game in a row that he has missed with a hamstring injury. Former 3rd-round pick Josh Ezeudu of UNC stepped up to fill the role on Sunday, reprising that role again tonight. Ezeudu played well, albeit against one of the worst front sevens in football. This 49ers defense will look to test him tonight, along with Right Tackle Evan Neal. Neal will have his hands full with the reigning defensive player of the year, Nick Bosa. Bosa has proven to be a force not to be reckoned with. The Giants fans and front office will hope to see some good things from Neal in this matchup, but when facing a player of Bosa's caliber, there can be little to expect. Ben Bredeson, who started last week at Left Guard, is also out with a concussion. In his absence, 5th-round pick Marcus Mckethan and veteran Mark Glowinski will handle the two guard spots tonight. Azeez Ojulari, as previously stated, is out tonight as well. Ojulari has an extremely high ceiling if he can stay healthy. That, unfortunately, is yet to be proven as the young edge rusher is set to miss another game after missing last week as well. After today, Ojulari will have played in 25 out of 36 possible games in his career. In just three seasons in the NFL, Ojulari has failed to stay healthy for the entirety of one of them. Azeez's production, when he does play, however, makes things very complicated. His 13.5 sacks and 20 QB hits accurately depict his impact when he has played. When healthy Ojulari can thrive, there is no doubt about it. Moving forward, the Giants are looking to see how often that is. Hopefully, things will take a brighter turn for Ojulari's health, especially as we near contract talks in 2025. Linebacker Micah McFadden is currently listed as a game-time decision. McFadden is dealing with a neck injury but has a chance to play tonight after being limited in practice all week. Saquon Barkley is also set to miss tonight's game after suffering an ankle sprain last week in Arizona. Barkley's impact on this team goes without saying. The captain Running Back is the kickstarter to this Giant's offense; getting anything going without him will be a challenge against one of the league's best defenses.
However, it's not all doom and gloom for New York, as last year's second-round pick, WR Wan'Dale Robinson, is set to make his season debut. Robinson tore his ACL last year in the fifth week of the season. Since being hired in the previous offseason, General Manager Joe Schoen has emphasized adding explosiveness and playmaking to the offense. Robinson checks both of those boxes. In the game where Wan'Dale tore his ACL, he had nine catches for 100 yards on the dot vs. Detroit. Coming out of the gate, the Giants will look to ease him into the Wide Receiver rotation. With an already deep group, I expect Robinson to get minimal time tonight. Surely, Head Coach Brian Daboll and Offensive Coordinator Mike Kafka must be thrilled to have another weapon in their repertoire. Expect the two to get Robinson far more involved as the weeks pass and the season progresses.
