Bears Defense Slams Door on Dobb's Vikings

In the latest installment of the NFC North rivalry between the Bears and Vikings, both teams struggled to get a consistent roll on offense. The two defenses stood on their heads as they forced a combined six turnovers.

Chicago's defense was credited with four of six turnovers, forcing Vikings Quarterback Joshua Dobbs to throw four interceptions. Remaining stout throughout the game, Chicago made it difficult for Dobbs and company to get any offensive rhythm due to the incoming pressure. Chicago's defense had eight pass deflections and nine QB hits to go with it. Newly acquired Edge Rusher Montez Sweat was in on both sacks for Chicago on the night, making his presence felt.

Justin Fields and the Chicago offense struggled to find any rhythm but managed to take advantage of the Dobbs interceptions, which led to points. Unlike Dobbs, Fields did not throw an interception. However, Fields coughed up two fumbles that could have swung the game's momentum had his defense not stepped up. Wide Receiver Dj Moore has built a great rapport with the young QB, and it was on display for all to see Thursday Night. Moore hauled 11 passes for 114 yards, accounting for just over half of Fields’ passing total. Fields may be at his best on the ground, and on Thursday he led his team with 59 yards rushing.

Tight End Tj Hockenson led the Vikings in receiving with five catches for 50 of Dobbs's 185 total passing yards. Rookie WR Jordan Addison was ineffective, despite leading the team in receptions with six, he only tallied 39 yards. The rushing attack was also inadequate for Minnesota, as they only rushed for 73 yards on the ground. Running Back Alexander Mattison led the way with ten carries for 52 yards.

Minnesota's defense played exceptionally well, especially given the circumstances in which the offense was putting them. Despite repeatedly getting put in unfavorable field position, the Vikings' defense only allowed 12 points. Not allowing a touchdown is very hard in this league, and the Viking's defense did it despite starting on their side of the field multiple times. This gritty defensive front, led by none other than probable All-Pro Danielle Hunter, was the main spark that ignited this defense. Hunter contributed nine tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and three QB hits. Week to week, Hunter continues to dominate whoever is across from him, and this week was much of the same. He puts the proverbial battery in the back of this defense, drawing most of the offensive attention, which results in other guys being able to contribute.
