Devito Will Continue Leading Giants
The New York Giants Quarterback situation has been hectic, disappointing, and a downright debacle this season. When Daniel Jones went down with a season-ending ACL tear, any optimism surrounding the team was gone. Veteran Tyrod Taylor had stepped into the starting QB role and performed solidly before getting injured as well. With both of the top Quarterbacks down, the Giants turned to undrafted rookie Tommy Devito to come off the practice squad and lead the way.
Today, Head Coach Brian Daboll announced that Tommy Devito will continue to take the reins as the Giants starter. Despite showing signs of struggles early on, Devito has had the Giant's offense looking somewhat competent as of late. He is 2-2 in his four starts, which matches the win total of the two other QBs, and he leads the team in touchdown passes with seven. He hasn't turned the football over much, having thrown three picks in the four starts. Devito has shown to make big plays downfield, something the Giants have lacked for the past few seasons.
The New Jersey native has become a fan favorite over his short tenure as QB. Not only is he a local kid, but he is playing reasonably well and won some football games, something the rest of the starters should have done. If his play continues to develop and improve, I could see Devito as the future backup QB.
