Titans Shock NFL World, Fire Head Coach Mike Vrable

Early Tuesday morning the Tennessee Titans made a truly shocking move, deciding to move on from Head Coach Mike Vrabel after six seasons on the job. Since then, many have come out and questioned the Titans' intentions moving forward after this move. Vrabel had a winning record in his six-year tenure, including three playoff appearances and a trip to the AFC Championship.

Having won the NFL Coach of the Year award in 2021, Vrabel seemed to have his team on the high road but has had a losing record of 13-21 since. However, a lot can be said about the talent the Titan front office has given him to work with or the lack thereof. Questionable decisions regarding some of the most essential pieces of the franchise have made a severe impact leading up to this point. For starters, trading Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Aj Brown for what currently seems to be minimal return in hindsight set the offense back terribly. Brown has helped the Philadelphia Eagles become one of the league's most feared offenses, contributing mightily to their appearance at the Super Bowl last year.

Yet another head-scratching move by the people upstairs was the decision to extend 32 year old QB Ryan Tannehill to a four-year, 118-million-dollar contract. To Tannehill's credit, he displayed serious signs of improvement from his Miami playing days but he was essentially the benefactor of a Derrick Henry driven offense. Tannehill's contract and declining play have proven to limit this team's ability to have success, yet Vrable has managed to make it work.

On the bright side, the former player-turned-head coach should expect to be busy meeting with teams, as, indeed, many teams would be ecstatic to have Vrable on their staff. Places like his former team in his playing days, the New England Patriots, may be in play for Vrabel if they move on from Bill Belichick.
