What is the Latest on Aaron Rodgers?
With just a few months until the regular season kicks off in Philadelphia with the Eagles and Cowboys, many fans are wondering exactly what is going on with Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old QB has yet to make a decision about his playing future, and after a wild offseason filled with a carousel of rumors, many are left wondering if the former 4x MVP will ever suit up again.
This past week, Rodgers took to the stage for a live podcast in Texas, during which he answered questions from fans in the crowd. One of these fans asked if Rodgers would ever consider signing with the New Orleans Saints after Derek Carr was forced to retire due to injury. Rodgers quickly shot down this proposal with a stern “no,” which he affirmed multiple times after giving further reasoning. During this live Q&A, Rodgers did not face any questions about the Steelers or the Vikings—two teams he has been heavily linked to since the end of the season.
As aforementioned, Rodgers is running out of time if he wants to get a proper camp in with his new team, should he decide to continue playing in the NFL. At this point in his career, it is worth noting that missing an entire camp is not something a 41-year-old QB can afford if he wants to be properly prepared both physically and mentally. Pittsburgh, the team linked to Rodgers the most, is easily in the most dire need of his services, but we have yet to see their interest in him confirmed. They had discussions about a month ago, but obviously, nothing has come of it. Head Coach Mike Tomlin has spoken about his confidence in Mason Rudolph, who is familiar with the Steelers as a starter.
With opening day swiftly approaching, I expect we will hear something from Rodgers’s camp soon enough. Until then, we’ll just have to deal with being left in the dark as the longtime fan favorite weighs his options moving forward.
