Gabe Davis Set to Explore Options After Release from Jags

The Jaguars have officially finalized wide receiver Gabe Davis’s departure, releasing him after a failed physical designation. This move confirms that Davis, who suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee last November, will not continue with the team. The injury was significant enough to require an estimated six-month recovery period, severely limiting his availability throughout his only season in Jacksonville.

During that abbreviated 2024 campaign, Davis appeared in just 10 games. Despite the setback, he managed to contribute 20 receptions, accumulating 239 yards and scoring two touchdowns—numbers that did not live up to the money allocated to him in free agency. Financially, the Jaguars chose to designate Davis as a post–June 1 release. This decision results in a $5.7 million dead cap charge for the current season but will allow the team to realize a cap savings of $794,118 starting June 1. This strategic move provides the Jaguars with some salary cap relief later in the year, though it underscores the difficult roster choices prompted by Davis’s injury and limited on-field production.

What’s next for Davis isn’t yet decided; however, it is well known that he is garnering interest around the league. One team he has been linked to is the New York Giants. Giants General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll have ties to Davis from their time in Buffalo. New York is in a situation where they could use Davis if he returns to being the player he was in Buffalo; however, their wide receiver room is in good enough shape to move forward as is. Ultimately, time will tell what’s next for Davis, and until then, we will have to sit back and see.
