Packers Cut Ties With CB Jaire Alexander
There have been ongoing discussions throughout the offseason surrounding the future of star cornerback Jaire Alexander. Rumors have circulated across social media platforms suggesting that the Packers were exploring the possibility of trading the former All-Pro in an effort to clear valuable cap space. Unfortunately for Green Bay, it appears they were unable to find any interested trade partners willing to take on the injury-prone defensive back. As a result, the team has made the difficult decision to release Alexander, effective immediately.
Selected in the first round (No. 18 overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Packers, Alexander spent seven seasons with Green Bay, appearing in 78 regular-season games and starting 76 of them. Over the course of his tenure, he amassed impressive stats, including 302 tackles (232 solo), 12 interceptions—one of which was returned for a touchdown—80 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 12 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hits. In the postseason, Alexander started six of the seven games he played and contributed three interceptions. His performance earned him second-team All-Pro honors twice, in 2020 and 2022, as well as selections to two Pro Bowls during those same years.
Looking ahead, Alexander is expected to attract significant interest from multiple teams eager to acquire his talents. When healthy, he remains an elite cornerback capable of elevating any secondary. The big question mark is his ability to stay on the field consistently, as injuries have been a recurring issue. Given the premium placed on the cornerback position and the constant demand for playmakers who can shut down opposing receivers, Alexander undoubtedly fits the profile teams crave.
At this moment, there are no scheduled visits with prospective teams, but that is likely to change in the near future. Several franchises will almost certainly reach out to assess his health and fit within their defenses as they look to bolster their secondaries. As developments unfold, I will continue to provide timely updates to keep you informed on Alexander’s next destination and how this high-profile move impacts the league.
