J.K. Dobbins Lands a Deal With Denver
One of the most compelling stories in football last year was the remarkable resurgence of J.K. Dobbins, who overcame a series of significant injury setbacks to reestablish himself as a valuable contributor on the field. After an impressive season with the Los Angeles Chargers, many expected Dobbins to be quickly signed during free agency. However, he surprisingly remained unsigned longer than anticipated. At long last, that wait has now come to an end. The Denver Broncos have reached an agreement to bring Dobbins into their backfield rotation, adding depth and versatility to a running back group that is still evolving—with the likes of Omarion Hampton being added in the first round of this year's draft.
Dobbins' contract with the Broncos is a one-year deal worth $2.75 million, with potential incentives that could increase the total value to over $5 million. His visit to the Broncos’ facility last week indicated mutual interest, and negotiations have been ongoing since then, culminating in this timely agreement.
It’s worth noting that the Los Angeles Chargers placed a one-year unrestricted free agent tender offer on Dobbins, which would have given them exclusive negotiating rights had he not signed with another team by July 23. This move underscored their desire to keep him but ultimately allowed Dobbins the freedom to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Despite battling multiple injuries since being drafted in 2020, Dobbins delivered a standout performance last season, setting career highs with 905 rushing yards, 32 receptions, and 153 receiving yards. Additionally, he matched his career best of nine rushing touchdowns, proving he remains a dynamic and productive player when healthy. His addition to the Broncos adds an exciting dimension to their offense and offers hope that he can continue to build on his recent success.
