Steelers GM Omar Khan Agrees to 3-Year Extension

The Steelers have solidified their commitment to General Manager Omar Khan by signing him to a new three-year contract, ensuring his leadership will continue through at least the 2028 season. This extension reflects the organization’s confidence in Khan’s vision and ability to shape a competitive roster for the future.

Before taking on his current role, Khan served as the team’s Vice President of Football and Business Operations. In that capacity, he worked closely with Rooney, former General Manager Kevin Colbert, and Coach Mike Tomlin to oversee the Football Operations Department. His responsibilities primarily involved managing the team's salary cap and negotiating player and coaching contracts, which helped maintain the team's financial and competitive balance.

In his role as General Manager, Khan has embraced an aggressive and multifaceted approach. He has actively leveraged free agency, executed impactful trades, and focused heavily on drafting top-tier talent to build a balanced and formidable roster. This strategy has resulted in a team that boasts strength across all positions, including several rookies who have stepped in as immediate starters and made meaningful contributions on the field.

Looking ahead, Pittsburgh will serve as the host city for the 2026 NFL Draft—a prime opportunity for the Steelers to showcase their front office prowess. Impressively, thanks to Khan’s strategic maneuvers, the team already holds 12 selections in that draft through various transactions—a rare and advantageous position to continue building through young talent.

While the Steelers have consistently exceeded expectations during the regular season under Khan’s management, postseason success has remained elusive. The team has yet to record a playoff victory during his tenure, with offensive shortcomings often cited as the primary hurdle in high-stakes games. To address this critical issue, Khan made significant moves during the offseason, acquiring marquee players such as quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver DK Metcalf, and tight end Jonnu Smith in separate high-profile deals. Combined, these players bring 13 Pro Bowl appearances to the roster, injecting experience and proven talent aimed at elevating the team's offensive capabilities and playoff competitiveness.

Defensively, Khan also bolstered the squad by adding seven-time Pro Bowler Jalen Ramsey—a move designed to reinforce an already strong defensive unit and enhance the team’s ability to control games from both sides of the ball.
