Broncos & Courtland Sutton Reach Agreement on Extension

Positive developments have emerged from Denver this week, as beloved wide receiver Courtland Sutton has agreed to a substantial contract extension to remain with the Broncos. The organization and Sutton, who also serves as one of the team captains, have finalized a four-year, $92 million deal that will keep him in Denver through the 2029 season, sources revealed to ESPN. This agreement highlights both Sutton’s on-field value and his leadership role within the locker room.

The contract features $41 million in guarantees, according to various sources. In particular, the $14 million Sutton was slated to earn this season—a combination of a $13.5 million base salary and a $500,000 workout bonus—is now fully guaranteed. Additionally, there is an extra $27 million in guarantees spread over the duration of the extension, offering him substantial financial security. Sutton pointed out that he was conscious of how this new contract might impact the team’s ability to retain other key players, expressing a willingness to help preserve the core roster.

“The deal that we ended up signing is a great deal, and it was very beneficial to myself,” Sutton stated, as reported by Sean Keeler of The Denver Post. “And it provides us with an opportunity to retain a lot of really good players on this team for years to come.”

His remarks underscore not only his personal satisfaction with the contract but also his dedication to the team’s long-term success and unity.

Sutton concluded the 2024 season with career-best statistics, logging 81 receptions as quarterback Bo Nix’s preferred and most trusted target. His 1,081 receiving yards and eight touchdowns were the second-highest figures of his career, demonstrating his ongoing productivity and dependability on the field. Perhaps most notably, Sutton consistently thrived in high-pressure moments. He was tied for seventh in the NFL in tight-window targets—situations where the space between receiver and closest defender was less than a yard at the moment the ball was delivered. In this challenging category, Sutton was the only Denver player to place among the league's top 90, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure and make difficult catches.

This extension not only secures Sutton’s future with the Broncos but also signals the team’s confidence in him as a foundational player poised to help lead Denver to lasting success in the coming years. With Bo Nix now established at quarterback for the foreseeable future, securing his favored target alongside him was an obvious decision.
