Niners Lose George Kittle to IR
The San Francisco 49ers placed tight end George Kittle on injured reserve on Tuesday following a hamstring injury he sustained during the first half of Sunday’s win over the Seattle Seahawks. Consequently, Kittle is anticipated to miss several upcoming games, including road contests at New Orleans and Los Angeles, as well as home matchups against Arizona and Jacksonville. Under NFL rules, the earliest Kittle could return is the October 12 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kittle left Sunday’s game with 10:06 remaining in the second quarter after injuring his hamstring while running a deep route near Seattle’s sideline. That play ended with Seahawks safety Julian Love sacking quarterback Brock Purdy. Despite the injury, Kittle managed to steadily hobble back to the 49ers’ sideline before being officially ruled out for the rest of the game. Before exiting, he had tallied four catches for 25 yards and scored a touchdown early on, illustrating his important impact on the field.
Now in his ninth NFL season, George Kittle has cemented his status as one of the league’s top tight ends. He has earned Pro Bowl selections four years in a row and six times over the last seven seasons, highlighting his consistently elite play. Last year, he amassed an impressive 78 receptions for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns, reinforcing his position as a vital offensive weapon for the 49ers. His absence will undoubtedly be a major setback as the team aims to preserve its competitive edge this season.
