Ravens Desperately Need Lamar Jackson Back

Lamar Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, has missed his first game due to injury since the wild-card loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2023. Since 2018, Baltimore has struggled significantly in his absence, posting a disappointing 4–10 record and averaging just 16.6 points per game without their star quarterback. His impact on the team’s offense is undeniably substantial.

Currently, nine players are sidelined on Baltimore’s injury list, including four key Pro Bowlers from last season who have been ruled out: Jackson, middle linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), cornerback Marlon Humphrey (calf), and fullback Patrick Ricard (calf). Jackson sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 37–20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, exiting the game midway through the third quarter. Since then, he has missed all three of the Ravens’ practices this week, raising concerns about his availability going forward.

The loss of Jackson presents yet another formidable challenge for the Ravens, who find themselves at a troubling 1–4 start for only the second time in franchise history. With Jackson under center, Baltimore’s offense ranks third in the NFL, averaging an impressive 32.8 points per game. However, Jackson has endured significant physical punishment this season, having been sacked 15 times—a figure that ranks second-highest in the league. His absence was glaringly apparent in the team’s recent 44–10 blowout loss to the Houston Texans, highlighting just how essential he is to their success.

Looking ahead, there is cautious optimism surrounding the 28-year-old quarterback’s potential return. However, it remains uncertain whether he will be ready to take the field against the Rams this Sunday. The team and fans alike will be watching closely as the clock ticks down, hoping Jackson can recover in time to lead the Ravens back to competitiveness.
