Vikings Improve to 4-1

It was another close game. The Vikings were able to pull out a win and improve to 4-1 on the season after winning 29-22 at US Bank Stadium. Here are my takeaways from the Week 5 win:

  1. Offense was clicking early. For the first drives of the game the Vikings were having a field day. They scored touchdowns in each of the first 3 drives. Kirk Cousins started out the game 17/17, which is the greatest start for a Vikings quarterback ever. After going up 21-3 it looked like it was a game that Vikings would comfortably win, but that wasn’t the case.
  2. Defense struggles again. The Bears don’t have the best offense, yet it looked like they were doing whatever they wanted in the second half. After taking a touchdown lead late, the Bears were about to score again before Cam Dantzler stripped the ball from the Bears’ wide receiver to seal the win.
  3. Kirk leads another late game winning drive. While Kirk made some good throws and some bad, he was clutch when it mattered most. He ran in for a touchdown to give the Vikings the lead back, but his play has to get better before we play some really good teams.
  4. Special teams have got to improve. After a very good 4 weeks of play, it seemed as if the special teams made multiple surprising mistakes yesterday. There was a Craig Joseph missed kick, a blocked field goal, a muffed punt, and a shanked punt. Not the greatest day for special teams, but a win is a still a win.
